The gods made the earth for all men t’ share. Only when the kings come with their crowns and steel swords, they claimed it was all theirs. My trees, they said, you can’t eat them apples. My stream, you can’t fish here. My wood, you’re not t’ hunt. My earth, my water, my castle, my daughter, keep your hands away or I’ll chop ’em off, but maybe if you kneel t’ me I’ll let you have a sniff. You call us thieves, but at least a thief has t’ be brave and clever and quick. A kneeler only has t’ kneel.

Modern Westeros - The Neck

Not quite North, not quite South, a little bit of both and yet neither at all. As its always been, The Neck is still a very isolated part of the mainland of Westeros. It was never a desired place for industry and is mostly used as a link between the North and the Riverlands. There is still a large connection to the old ways in the people and its rumored that green-seeing is still prevalent amongst few of its citizens. There is still a stigma attached to the crannogmen, unfortunately. Their culture, which is still a mystery to most, is seen as uncivilized by the South. And because Greywater Watch could never be found, even still, there was never a major attempt to force assimilation by the Southern kingdoms. Their allegiance is to the North, as they’re respected and allowed to keep their customs as the see fit.

modern au - baratheons

“the only thing them kids had in common was blood. all but stannis’ kid shireen had the same daddy. that robert baratheon that got himself killed when they were younger. hell, he had kids all over the damn country. not like he could be bothered to take care of them though. they were alright. the oldest one, mya, she got a job working with the arryns out in denver; went from copy girl to vp in five years. that boy gendy is a damn-near genius. knows more about computers and all that technology crap than you and i could ever dream. edric, he was raised in london, only one robert ever acknowledged. shireen? oh she’s stannis’ daughter for sure. balls of steel, knows both sides of the game. unofficially, they have nothing to do with each other. it would seem smart if they worked together; gendry’s got the brain, mya knows the business, edric’s got the money, and shireen as sweet a face as she’s got now after the plastic surgery, she’s the wildcard. but they don’t know each other.. officially.”

modern au - lannisters

“everyone knew the rumors and everyone believed it, but the lannisters had the money to change facts and that’s just how shit was. but that couldn’t change them kids from believing it. everyone underestimated tommen, that boy had everyone fooled. played the part while playing everyone else. myrcella, she got sent away- or ran away. either way, she’s been in miami working for the martells for a few years. that cersei would have a fucking fit if she found out they were even talking to each other. but she of all people should know how tight the bond between siblings can be.”

modern au starks

“you remember what happened to the starks, don’t you? that crime family in boston? i remember when they ran everything. if ned’s brother brandon hadn’t gotten killed back in ‘82, who knows how shit would’ve gone down. ned tried, but he ain’t got a head for the game. the lannisters really did a number on that whole family didn’t they. started working with the feds to take robb down when he started rebuilding the business after his daddy died. they called it the ‘red wedding’. it was his uncle’s wedding i think, where him and his crew got arrested. his ma, catelyn, she got away. the girl sansa disappeared out west somewhere when that baratheon boy, joffrey died. word is she’s trying to finish what her brother started. the other one, arya i think, heard she’s in queens somewhere, heard she’s just as dangerous, but no one has seen her. that bastard of ned’s, jon, yeah he’s up in canada doing border patrol. them other two, the boys rickon and bran, i hear bran’s up in maine keeping out of trouble. better watch out for rickon though. that boy’s got a vengeance.”

modern au - martells

“there ain’t no touchin’ the martells. if ever there was a family you didn’t want as your enemy, they’d be it. just ask the lannisters. after what they did to elia and her babies during that shit storm in ‘82, it’s a wonder an all out war hasn’t been declared. but they been biding their time, for the sake of keeping the feds off their backs. but then they put the hit out on oberyn and it’s all going to hell. arianne took over after her daddy doran passed on. her and quentyn been fighting over who’s in charge since they were kids. word is he does contract work all over so he ain’t in miami much. the youngest one, trystane, he’s the playboy entrepreneur of the family. not a head for crime, but damn if he don’t know how to make money. then there’s the cousins, the sand snakes they’re called down there. but that’s a whole different story.”

Au Meme: Modern Gendry/Arya

She’ll lie and steal and cheat, and beg you from her knees
Make you thinks she means it this time
She’ll tear a hole in you, the one you can’t repair
But I still love her, I don’t really care

To Winterfell we pledge the faith of Greywater. Hearth and heart and harvest we yield up to you, my lord. Our swords and spears and arrows are yours to command. Grant mercy to our weak, help to our helpless, and justice to all, and we shall never fail you. I swear it by earth and water. I swear it by bronze and iron. We swear it by ice and fire

Four hundred years old it was, and as sharp as the day it was forged. The name it bore was older still, a legacy from the age of heroes, when the Starks were Kings in the North.

these ladies give me feels | sansa stark
“The night’s first traitors,” the queen said, “but not the last, I fear. Have Ser Ilyn see to them, and put their heads on pikes outside the stables as a warning.” As they left, she turned to Sansa. “Another lesson you should learn, if you hope to sit beside my son. Be gentle on a night like this and you’ll have treasons popping up all about you like mushrooms after a hard rain. The only way to keep your people loyal is to make certain they fear you more than they do the enemy.”
“I will remember, Your Grace,” said Sansa, though she had always heard that love was a surer route to the people’s loyalty than fear.
